About Nolan

Nolan James Skinner was born on March 11, 1979 to James and Nancy Skinner in Bremerton Washington. He is the oldest of four. His father was in the Navy for the first 16 years of Nolan's life, and consequently, they moved around a lot - living in such places as Guam, Ohio, Washington, and Connecticut. When Nolan's father retired from the Navy, they moved to Colorado.

Nolan started playing the trombone when he was in fifth grade. He discovered a knack for art, and is very skilled at drawing and painting. He specializes in detail - never missing even the tiniest things. He continues his art now, focusing on pencil drawings, and sculpting and painting creatures from H.P. Lovecraft's stories, which he came across a couple years ago.

When Nolan was 19 years old, he got very ill, and was misdiagnosed with a stomach ulcer, and put on strong medications. Vomiting blood and bile almost every day for two years, he started losing weight rapidly, and nearly died several times. After consulting different physicians, he was finally able to find one who agreed that he had the same gall bladder disease and infection his mother had experienced. Nolan's gall bladder was removed when he was 23 years old, but not before infections flooded through his system. The doctors finally got things under control, and he was instructed to focus on gaining back the weight he'd lost. Before he got sick, he weighed around 175. The day of his surgery, he weighed in at 115, and continued to lose weight for several weeks after the surgery. It took nearly seven years to fully recover.

Nolan graduated from Portland State University with a major in Biology, emphasizing in Molecular Biology. He moved home to Colorado for a few months before accepting a job to work for ARUP Laboratories at the University of Utah Hospital as a lab technician. He tests for AIDS and Hepatitis B and C. He loves hiking, physical activity, music, and art. He and Andrea enjoy cooking together, and frequently try new, delicious recipes.
